Although the Underground Puppet Works has some materials, tools and supplies, unfortunately the budget isn't in place for every participant to get their own tool kit, glue gun, and so on. Also, the Works probably won't be able to supply all of the materials you might need to complete your project -- unless you are working extremely low-budget, which is completely feasible with puppetfilm! Here is a partial list of suggested materials, depending on what you are making and how you are working, that you might wish to start collecting and consider bringing to the 'Works for your own use. Don't buy anything until you know what you are making, though! We'll get more into some suggestions for materials for your particular projects when we start really talking about Fabrication.
- decent scissors
- a small glue gun
- small riveter and some rivets (ours came from CMS Metals, pretty good price)
- small paint brushes
- rolodex cards and push-pins for storyboards
- sharpies, pens, pencils, etc.
- wire of different gauges
- somewhat non-toxic glues (hot glue, white or wood glue, etc.)
- crazy glue, epoxy glue (to be used in moderation in small spaces)
- paints, inks, charcoal, etc.
- other media and art supplies you like working with
- sculpting materials of all kinds:
- oil-based clay
- water-based clay
- casting plaster
- Sculpey, Fimo, or other bake-able polymer sculpting media
- 2-part plumber's epoxy putty (ask me if you don't know what this is)
- soft sculpture materials: fabric, string, yarn, cotton, fur, wool, stuff...
- hard sculpture stuff: nerny bits, found objects, things, and other junk to kluge together
- sewing thread
- toolkit or personal box for your stuff
anything else you want to work with that we don't have on hand!
