2D Puppet Tests~CRE

Here is where I will post some of the preliminary puppet and set tests. Some of them are actually applicable to my first film project, and some are more for fun, just to get into the groove of making 2D puppets, and experimenting with ways of using practical lighting and simple mechanical tricks to achieve effects.

(inspired by a clip in Lyon Forrest Hill's Junk Palace)

'Prairie Sunset'  test
Paper clouds, tissue paper filters.

A bit more 3D than I was going for originally, but I love the look. Needs tweaking but a decent test,  something to start giving us an idea of how to tackle the first shot in our first film...  Thanks, Sarah and Amy!

'Rain Test with Clint'
Fun with fishline, flashlights, and The Man With No Name

So far I don't have a project in mind that requires a rainstorm, but I have been wanting to try this rain idea since I first got the vision in my head for how to do it some time ago. It's not perfect (I'd like the rain lines to be more parallel to each other, for example) but having done this little test, I have some ideas for making this much better... if I ever find a nice puppetfilm project that needs rain, that is! Thanks to Kristine Dowler for the help with puppeting on this one!

This Big World Shadow Tests!
excerpts from some shadow puppetfilm tests we shot earlier this week

On Wednesday the 17th, Amy Mantyka, Sarah Huber and I spent the day coming up with a variety of tests for working with shadows. Experiments were conducted in rear-screen shadows, silhouettes, front lights, gels, drawing on cels, and more. Here are a few of the results as reference. As you can see, we really had a fun day, and made lots of surprising discoveries! Thanks, Sarah and Amy!

Enjoy!!!
